Walker and Massiel had an incredible wedding in New York and much of Tampa invaded the city to celebrate!  I had the pleasure of photographing their awesome rehearsal dinner that took place at Metrazur, a restaurant inside Grand Central Terminal.  It was really really cool!  Walker’s parents ordained the tables with Florida seashells to bring a little bit of home to the big city.  Even more special – Walker had decided not to have a groom’s cake at his wedding because he would have only wanted his late grandmother’s red velvet cake.  His mom and sister slaved for hours to surprise Walker with red velvet cupcakes made exactly like his grandmother made them.  They were phenomenal!

Enjoy these fun photos of my dear friends’ rehearsal dinner!

(I am not responsible for any of the following poses . . .

I just photographed what I saw happening ;) . . .

ps, Michael, second from the right, thinks that this event might help him break out into modeling, your thoughts?)

Jett (Walker’s mom) surprising him with the cupcakes!

Okay, I LOVE the contrast in the kids’ expressions above.  Haha.

You can see these photos and more in their **SLIDESHOW**

a coronation ball

February 7, 2011

Jessica guessed it . . . the mystery behind the mask and feathers are my mother, Dutchess Ruia and my father Duke Joe of the Krewe of Venus.  Which is basically one of many fun, social clubs in Tampa.  They are serving on the court this year so a few of us attended their coronation ball in January.  Enjoy these few photos from the colorful Fire and Ice Event.

You might remember Queen Morgan from her Queen’s Ball . . . she’s presiding over the Krewe another year.

I believe that these are the proud grandparents of the queen.

the Queen of Venus

I had the pleasure of photographing the Krewe of Venus’ 2010 Queen’s Ball.  If you are not from Tampa, you probably are wondering what that means . . . or even if you are from Tampa, you might still wonder.  Well, you might remember me talking about the annual Gasparilla Pirate Invasion (my posts from 2010 & 2009). Well those pirates are upstanding citizens of the city of Tampa who are members of various Krewes. Each Krewe does different fundraisers throughout the year that support local charities. Additionally, each Krewe crowns an annual royal court presided over by the Queen and King. This past year, the beautiful Morgan Prevatt represented the Krewe as their Queen. Her gown was pretty incredible.  I told her that she was so pretty I could not stiop looking at her.

Anyway, here are just a quick few images from the Queen’s Ball in November.krewe of venus, tampa, queen's ball 2010 krewe of venus, tampa, queen's ball 2010 krewe of venus, tampa, queen's ball 2010

This is my incredibly talented friend Trish.   These photos were taken within minutes after she finished the World Championship Half Ironman in Clearwater Beach last weekend.  That’s 70.3 miles and a little over 5 hours of straight working out.  And she still looks pretty darn good if you ask me.  We wanted to take some photos for her to use on her personal blog.

What you need to know about Trish is that she is a strong and inspiring woman with a contagious laugh that fills a room.  Her whole life revolves around encouraging others and helping them to see the best that already exists inside of them and to be comfortable in their own skin.  She is a trainer by day and a writer by night.  Her first book is in the process of being published and in it she speaks of overcoming a 10 year eating disorder, and beginning to love the body she lives in.  You can check out the website to the book here.

If you enjoy daily inspiration, check out Trish’s daily blog at www.beautifulbodybistro.com.

Besides a quick coffee in Washington DC in 2009, this was the first time I had seen Trish since we graduated from Davidson in 2005.  But I love close friendships that can pick up where you left off while still appreciating at the growth and changes that have occured in the other’s life.  Trish started a movement and we ended up having three other friends (Elizabeth, Keeley and Dorsett) coming down for an awesome weekend together.
